When you are told you have cancer your mind goes in all different directions. The dreaded “C” word brings up confusion, doubt, anxieties, distress and concern for an unknown future. On December 5th I was reading “Jesus Calling” and the scripture was from Genesis 28. Jacob was running away from his brother and he ended up in a certain place where he went to sleep on a stone pillow in a land that seemed desolate, a place of anxiety, confusion, darkness, chaos and an uncertain future. He dreamt about the stairway that reaches to heaven and angels ascending and descending and God speaking. When he woke up he said, “Surely, the Lord is in this place and I was not aware of it.” I would like to say that in my journey the Lord is with me, even if I am not aware of it. He is always there. He is Immanuel – God with us. So even going through all the lows of the “C” word it is so good to know God is there.
