Pastor Derek (Discipleship & Community Engagement Pastor) & Erica Letwinetz
Derek is the newest addition to the River Valley Pastoral Team. In April 2021 Derek was hired to oversee Worship and Community Engagement at RVCC. Derek brings experience and insight to both areas of ministry. Previously, he has worked within church ministry, Teen Challenge, and is a graduate of Briercrest College.
Derek’s walk with the Lord began twenty years ago while working in the oil patch of south eastern Saskatchewan. Shortly thereafter, a desire to pursue higher Christian education led Derek to Briercrest where he graduated with a Degree in Music and theological studies in 2009. Following graduation he has served as a chapel director and duty staff with Teen Challenge Saskatchewan ministering to men with substance addiction. Starting in 2011 he served as Pastor of Creative Arts with Lake Park Baptist Church in Birch Hills Saskatchewan. His involvement with RVCC started behind the scenes in 2017 as an attending congregate. Derek’s desire to help people come to know Jesus and be authentic, devote followers has been his driving force throughout his years. His enjoyment for worship and his passion to see God transform lives in, and outside, the church naturally evolved for him to oversee Community Engagement and Worship permanently in early 2021.
Derek is the undeserving and extremely fortunate husband to Erica, and the proud father of Emerson and Alera. He enjoys spending time outdoors in summer tending to his yard, mountain biking, and helping his children with their musical abilities. In the winter he likes to spend time indoors listening to music, playing guitar, and listening to biblical teachers and theologians.
“Over the years God has taught me many profound things. I suppose thankfulness and contentment by seeking the Kingdom of God comes to mind most. That is why this Matthew 6 means so much to me. At the end of the day what matters most is loving God and loving and serving people. Let us press on to the goal to which we were called.”
